UFC 202: Diaz V McGregor II: Pre Fight Press Conference

Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor lock horns for the second time in 2016 in just 3 days times at UFC 202 in Las Vegas. Diaz, currently holds the bragging rights between the pair after forcing a tap from McGregor at UFC 196. Since that battle, the fallout has been catastrophic. McGregor announced that he had 'decided to retire young' before his scheduled rematch with Diaz at UFC 200 and was subsequently removed from the card. During the UFC 200 press conference, Nate Diaz was present and told how he wouldn't be willing to fight anybody else when questioned by well respected MMA journalist Ariel Helwani. With the recent controversy surrounding UFC 200, mainly involving the failed drug tests of Jon 'Bones' Jones and Brock Lesnar, many fans and pundits have labelled this event as the real '200'. UFC president revealed that McGregor had been pulled from the card as he refused to complete the compulsory media obligations in his contract. The outspoken Irish man told how he didn't want to leave his training camp in Iceland, days after flying out, after his return from Portugal. McGregor also stressed the pressure he was overwhelmed with during his 'world tours' for his José Aldo bout, originally scheduled for UFC 189. The Brazilian favourite then pulled out of the title fight citing a rib injury and was replaced by Chad 'Money' Mendes, which forced more press conferences and media swarms for the Dublin native. UFC 194 seen another 'world tour' between McGregor and Aldo with the bout finally taking place, but lasting only 13 seconds. 'The Notorious', such a huge draw and world wide superstar, is required to fulfil his media obligations as his pulling power and notoriety is sure to bring media and public attention to his fights. McGregor came out of retirement 2 days later and interestingly, we have seem a much more active Nate Diaz, in terms of talk show appearances and occasions in the media's spotlight with the Stockton native becoming a star in his own right since his massive victory.

The David Copperfield Theatre played host to UFC president Dana White, Glover Teixeira, Anthony Johnson and the stars of the main event, Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor, expect fireworks. As thought, the press conference was delayed by 15 minutes with fighters arriving at different times. Conor, was particularly late for the press conference as Dana looked very unhappy and had no time for questions about the Irish mans punctuality. Diaz was questioned whether or not, he would be in trouble this time and weather or not he cared about Conor being late and told how he 'didn't care'. 'Rumble' Johnson told how he was hoping to face Daniel Cormier if he could finding a way past the 'Brazilian killing machine' Glover. Teixiera told how he also wants to face Cormier in a Light Heavyweight title bout. Diaz was asked if he expected a brawl and gave the a simple 'we'll see' answer. Diaz also told how he didn't really think he had a weight advantage over McGregor, even though Diaz has more fights at Welterweight. He also wanted to know why he was regarded as a heavyweight against Conor. Johnson was asked if he was disappointed about the Jon Jones situation and told how he would like the fight to happen if the chance could occur. Teixiera was also asked about the power of 'Rumble' and told how he would have to be careful. White was asked about the future of both men in terms of title fights and said 'we'll see after the fights'. 'Rumble' told how he had a power and speed advantage, but besides that, it would be an equal matchup. Glover told how this matchup highlighted how exciting MMA was. Diaz was asked how he was feeling about McGregor's predictions and told how he believed Conor was just trying to pump himself up. Diaz also mocked Conor's portraits of their previous I battle in his Las Vegas gym and questioned 'who does that' White then told how he would either '100%' defend his title or 'give it up'. Diaz then was questioned about a title shot and told how he wasn't really interested in those fights, but rather in 'big fights'. Johnson was then posed the question of how a second bout with Cormier would go down and how he hoped he would 'stay down' this time. Diaz was asked whether or not he proved he was a better fighter than a fighter, but complimented his fighting skills and his mind games. Diaz was asked how he felt when he featured on 'Conan' and 'Jimmy Kimmel' and told how he had fun and that it was good for the promotion. Conor had yet to show up with a mere 20 minutes of the press conference past. Teixiera then told how he felt great, even though he was coming towards the conclusion of his career and highlighted his previous fights against OSP and Fabio Maldonado and how he felt similar to those fight camps for this fight. White then confirmed that McGregor was in fact on route to the conference. Ariel Helwani then asked how much Diaz weighed and he told how he was about '175'. McGregor finally arrived and blamed bad communications for his tardiness. He also told how he just wanted to fight and forget all the time keeping. Helwani asked Conor about his reputation if the fight does not go his way and Conor told how he wanted to see Diaz's 'full camp' and how he would be ready for his Ju-Jitsu and his Clinch and the whole of Stockton. Diaz then told how the UFC were trying to make an 'escape route' win, lose or draw for McGregor. McGregor also told how he would take his whole team. Before Diaz stormed off with his whole team. Nick and Nate then began to throw bottles at Conor from the gantry and McGregor retaliated with a throw of his own as White called an end to the conference.
