Will Brooks v Alex Oliveira: What just happened.

Former Bellator Lightweight Champion 'Ill' Will Brooks takes on Alex 'Cowboy' Oliveira in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 96 with both men looking to build on their previous wins in the octagon. The first round got underway with Will Brooks landing a good leg kick. Oliveira then clinched against the fence landing some good knee strikes. Brooks defended a good double leg attempt from 'Cowboy', before spinning and getting his own double leg takedown. Oliveira landed some decent elbow strikes similar to Travis Browne's technique before trying to set up a guillotine but couldn't lock his hands. The second round began with Brooks landing a great single leg trip to take the fight to the mat and wound up in full mount but wasn't able to posture up to land some strikes. Brooks then looked for a standing rear-naked choke which was defended well by Oliveira. Oliveira then got a takedown of his own before Brooks popped back up. Oliveira again with a takedown landed some good elbows from Brooks guard. Once again Oliveira defended a standing rear-naked choke attempt from the fighter. Brooks landing a good leg kick opened up the third and final round before a good right hook dropped Brooks. The rib injury sustained by Brooks in the first round seems to be troubling Brooks as he barely defended a outside trip. Oliveira then from half guard against the fence landed a flurry of strikes forcing Herb Dean to step in and end the fight in the final round. Oliveira began to taunt Brooks after the fact before Brooks threw his mouthpiece at the Brazil native. Brooks was wincing on the ground with his rib injury which seemed to half a huge effect of his performance.
