Liverpool v Manchetser United:
Monday night seen the clash between the two biggest behemoths of English football, with Liverpool hosting Manchetser United at Anfield. Liverpool occupied 4th spot in the league, 3 points off the early pace setters Manchetser City, while United lay in 7th, 6 points from the league summit. Jen Klopp was forced to bring in Emre Can to the midfield, while former Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge who spearheaded the Liverpool side. Mourinho elected to leave out Juan Mata from the starting eleven, while Marouane Fellaini and Ashley Young came into the starting eleven. News before the fixture was dominated by the United squad, once again, training in their hotel car park. Wayne Rooney remained on the bench once again, while Anthony Martial was left out of the squad with a minor knee injury.
Manchetser United got us underway with Daley Blind giving away an early foul. Similarly, Marcus Rashford came in hard on James Milner, as Mourinho's men closed the distance early on. Antonio Valencia slipped in Rashford down the right hand side but the youngster ran out of space as Lovren pressured well. Pogba drew a foul early on from Joel Matip with Ibrahimovic skying his effort from about 40 yards out. Valencia was pressed well by Firmino and Coutinho, with the former, seeing his cross into the area well defended from the lurking Daniel Sturridge. A good ball found Sturridge on the shoulder of the last defender but his first touch let him down. Paul Pogba had some space from range and opted to shoot when maybe a ball to Rashford was the better option, as the ball sailed harmlessly over Karius' net. A good passing move involving Valencia and Rashford found Ibrahimovic on the edge of the area, but a deflection took the sting out of the Swede's effort. United were finding some joy on the second ball and were breaking up the play in the middle with Fellaini defending well so far with 20 minutes gone. A dangerous ball into the area from Rashford forced Karius to dive at the feet of the oncoming blue shirt as he cleared well. A brilliant Liverpool move eventually came to nothing, with De Gea faced with an easy save from Roberto Firmino's header. James Milner's deep free kick was eat;y claimed by De Gea as Ibrahimovic fouled Lovren at the other end, with Karius at sea. Liverpool had a decent 5 minutes of offence, with United seeing it out comfortably. Eric Bailly picked up a booking and from the resulting free kick, De Gea was again equal. Ashley Young picked up a yellow card for dissent as Anthony Taylott blew the half time whistle.
United made the more promising start to the second half with Valencia making waves down the right channel. Karius made an early mistake playing in Pogba but the Frenchman's ball to Ibrahimovic was actually offside. A wonderful ball from Pogba picked out Ibrahimovic at the back post but his header back across Karius was poor. Liverpool made the first real chance of the night with Emre Can forcing a great save from De Gea who got down quickly to his right. Jurgen Klopp made his first chance of the night with Adam Lallana coming on for Daniel Sturridge as they looked for some creativity in midfield. Sadio Mané made a good run before Philippe Coutinho couldn't sort out his feet as he fouled his man and gave away a cheap free kick. Liverpool were making some real chances with 20 minutes remaining, with United again pressing deep. De Gea was again on hand to deny Liverpool, this time from Philippe Coutinho, a trademark dipping, curling effort which De Gea was equal to. A slip from Daley Blind called Eric Bailly into action and the Ivorian was on hand to break down a good chance. Mourinho called on Wayne Rooney with Marcus Rashford being replaced by the England forward. A good run from Valencia forced a corner after his cross was headed out by Emre Can. Daley Blind's cross found the head of a Fellaini who's header went tamely past the post. Antonio Valencia once again showed his brilliance with a fantastic tackle on Firmino when the goal was gaping. Klopp decided to introduce Divock Origi for Roberto Firmino as the German was going for broke, with Alberto Moreno replacing the hobbling James Milner. United were pressing too much at some stages, with Marouane Fellaini being booked. Ashley Young was then replaced by Luke Shaw for the final minutes. Both sides shared the spoils as Anthony Taylor sounded the full time whistle, 0-0.
