Anderson Silva and GSP targeted for UFC 206:

A dream matchup for any MMA fan could be on the horizon. The long awaited Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre matchup is reportedly being targeted for UFC 206 in St. Pierre's Canada. Many peoples Greatest Of All Time, Anderson Silva, dominated the UFC Middleweight division since his debut against Chris Leben, defending his Middleweight title a record setting 10 times before being defeated by former champion Chris Weidman. His incredible 16 fight win streak in the organisation seen him beat the best of the best including Demian Maia, Vitor Belfort, Forrest Griffin, Dan Henderson and twice beating Rich Franklin and Chael 'American Gangster' Sonnen. Recent injuries and a failed drug test has seen Silva losing to Michael Bisping, controversially and as a late replacement for Jon Jones at UFC 200, losing a decision to Daniel Cormier in a Light Heavyweight contest. Regardless of recent blemishes in his career, Silva's Muay Thai skills and striking accuracy can never be denied with 20 wins from his 33, coming by way of knockout. The former Pride fighter is currently ranked #6 in the UFC Middleweight rankings, but a victory over the Canadian St. Pierre could propel him toward a Middleweight title shot. A loss to the former Welterweight champ, would extend his losing streak to 5 in his last six, with the the exception being a no contest when he failed a drug test after picking up a decision win over Nick Diaz after his leg injury sustained against Chris Weidman in the pairs rematch, and may force Anderson to strongly think about hanging up his gloves at the age of 41.

Canadian favourite Georges St-Pierre will go down with Royce Gracie, Anderson Silva, Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture as one of the many pioneers of mixed martial arts, with a career spanning more than 10 years, a hugely impressive record of 25-2, with only Matt Serra and fellow great Matt Hughes beating the loveable Canadian. With 9 UFC Welterweight title defences to his name, St. Pierre is arguably the most dominant Welterweight the world has seen. Beating the likes of B.J. Penn, twice, Johnny Hendricks, Nick Diaz, Matt Serra and Carlos Condit in his illustrious career.  His decision to walk away from the sport after his successful defence against Johnny Hendricks in 2013, has seen the likes of Robbie Lawler, Stephen Thomspon, Demian Maia, Tyron Woodley and fellow Canadian and now Bellator fighter, Rory MacDonald come to prominence in his absence. A win for GSP, if he and Silva were to face off, could hand him a title opportunity against champion Tyron Woodley or Stephen Thompson with the former, defending his Welterweight crown at UFC 205 in New York. A win for St-Pierre would also setup the rumoured super fight between him and current Featherweight champion and Lightweight title challenger, 'The Notorious' Conor McGregor. With St- Pierre already facing and overcoming Nick Diaz, a victory over 'The Spider' could pave way for a bout against the younger Diaz brother, Nate.
