Ched Evans found not guilty of rape:

Former Manchester City striker Ched Evans has been found not guilty of rape by a jury after his retrial. Evans was accused of raping a 19 year old woman and was sentenced to 5 years in prison and was released in October of 2014. The Welsh forward spent time on loan at Norwich before signing for Sheffield United, before his conviction in April, 2012. Evans was accused of raping a 19 year old waitress who was deemed too drunk to give consent, and after a long process of seeking a retrial, he has now been proven innocent. During his time in HM Prison Wymott, he was met by then Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough who expressed an interest in resigning the Welshman, only for a petition of 150,000 signatures, disagreed with the decision. Hartlepool United, Maltese club Hibernians, Oldham Atlectic and Grimsby Town have also turned down the move, citing high risk and the opinion of fans as the reasons for pulling out of the respected deals. In the summer of 2016, Evans signed his first contract since his prison release, joining Chesterfield, scoring 4 goals in 8 games for the League One club.
