Vitor Belfort v Gegard Mousasi: What just happened.

Former UFC Heavyweight tournament winner Vitor Belfort battled former StrikeForce Middleweight champ Gegard 'The Dreamcatcher' Mousasi. Mousasi began the stronger of the pair in the first round dominating octagon control and landing his jab to keep the powerful striker, Belfort, at distance. Credit to Belfort, he did hold his own in the clinch as he defended two takedown attempts before eventually being takedown just moments after the buzzer sounded to end the first round. Vitor did revert to his old style of swarming when he caught Mousasi with a good upper cut and followed in with a couple of close range strikes. Round one to Mousasi. The second round began similarly to the first with Mousasi again applying the pressure. Mousasi then changed a gear when he landed a beautifully timed right high kick which rocked Belfort and the Dutchman took a page out of the legendary Brazilians book as he too swarmed Belfort, landing precisely before forcing Vitor to the mat. Gegard occupied Belfort's back looking for an ultimately unsuccessful rear-naked choke before transitioning to full mount where he pummelled the Brazilian forcing Marc Goddard to set in and hand Gegard Mousasi his 40th career win. After the fight, Mousasi called out Anderson Silva as his next opponent as he looks at a run at the Middleweight title.
