Viviane Araújo Out, Jennifer Maia Meets Joanne Calderwood on August 1st.

The flyweight pairing of Brazilian duo, Viviane 'Vivi' Araújo, and former Invicta FC titleholder, Jennifer Maia has been shelved - after the former was forced from the tie, having provided a positive COVID-19 test result. Maia will remain on the August 1st. Fight Night event, as she meets with expected title challenger, Joanne 'Jojo' Calderwood on short-notice.

Looking to return to winning ways, Curitiba native, Maia dropped a defeat to one-time title challenger, Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 244 in November in her last outing. Widely expected to eventually meet with undisputed division champion, Valentina Shevchenko - Irvine striker, Calderwood has taken a matchup with Maia on short-notice, with Kyrgyzstan fan-favourite, Shevchenko still sidelined through injury. Shevchenko's injury forced the cancellation of a scheduled matchup at the original instalment of UFC 251 in June. News of the reworked bout was first noted on Instagram by, damadeferromma.

Since her switch from Invicta FC to the UFC in 2018 - Brazilian all-rounder, Maia has managed to score a 2-2 record. In victories, the 31-year-old bested both Alexis Davis and Roxanne Modafferi, in between defeats to one-time bantamweight and flyweight title hopeful, Liz Carmouche, and the aforenoted, Chookagian. A professional since December 2009, Maia has noted highlight career wins over former strawweight champion, Jéssica Andrade, Vanessa Porto, the above mentioned, Modafferi (x2), and Agnieszka Niedźwiedź.

With three victories in her last four outings, #3 ranked contender, Calderwood was penned to meet with Shevchenko before the conclusion of the year but has chosen to remain active and slot in for Araújo on short-notice. In between a loss to the ever-present, Chookagian, Calderwood has notched victories over Andrea Lee, Kalindra Faria, and recent winner, Ariane Lipski. The decorated kickboxer plys her trade at Syndicate MMA, and since her move to the UFC six years ago, has secured a 6-4 record.
