Rio de Janeiro native, Santos will make his first appearance since July of last year, where he dropped a close split decision defeat to Jon Jones in his premier title tilt under the promotion banner. State of Minas Gerais born striker, Teixeira upset the odds in his last outing - scoring a bludgeoning knockout of Anthony 'Lionheart' Smith in the main event of UFC Fight Night Jacksonville in May. News of the exciting pairing at 205-pounds was initially reported by ESPN's, Brett Okamoto.

Santos, 36, made the leap to light heavyweight back in September of 2018 - scoring three straight victories before his aforenoted defeat to longtime titleholder, Jones. Managing three consecutive knockout wins, the Muay Thai practitioner struck finishes against Eryk Anders, Jimi Manuwa, and fellow perennial contender, Jan Błachowicz. The February prior to his light heavyweight bow, Santos took a knockout win over common opponent, the aforementioned Smith in a middleweight bout.

In the definite midst of a career resurgence, veteran division mainstay Teixeira made it four wins in four with his knockout of Smith in May. Before stopping the returning contender in his tracks, the 40-year-old had notched wins over Nikita Krylov, Ion Cuţelaba, and Karl Roberson. Hoping to earn a championship re-run with Jones of the back of an eye-catching win over Santos - Teixeira first challenged for Octagon gold back in April of 2014 at UFC 172, dropping a unanimous decision blemish.
