A strawweight pairing between division prospect, Emily Whitmire, and skidding challenger, Polyana 'Dama de Ferro' Viana has been reworked for a UFC Fight Night event in Las Vegas on August 29th.
The Oregon and Pará natives were scheduled to meet at UFC 248 in March until Whitmire was forced to withdraw from the bout on fight day after she was hospitalized. The 29-year-old had tipped the strawweight scales at 117.5-pounds the day prior.
Attempting to avenge her first defeat since her move to 115-pounds, Whitmire dropped a second-frame rear-naked choke to rising contender, Amanda Ribas at UFC Fight Night Minneapolis last June. Looking to prevent a fourth consecutive defeat, 28-year-old struggling challenger, Viana most recently faltered opposite Veronica Macedo via armbar at UFC Fight Night Montevideo last August. News of the remapped matchup was first penned by Combate reporter, Marcelo Barone.
Since her move to strawweight back in July 2018, Whitmire has managed to establish a 2-1 promotional record. The Ultimate Fighter 26 quarterfinalist picked up victories over Jamie Moyle, and Alexandra Albu before her aforenoted loss to Viana's compatriot, Ribas.
Ribas - a common opponent of the two, met with Viana back at Jungle Fight 83, dropping her single career defeat, in a knockout loss. Despite debuting successfully with a submission win over Maia Stevenson at UFC Fight Night Belem in February of 2018 - Viana has gone on to lose her next three Octagon outings. Matched with JJ Aldrich, Hannah Cifers, and the aforementioned, Macedo - the Brazilian suffered defeats in all three. From ten career wins, Viana has secured an eye-catching ten finishes; four knockouts and six submissions.
