UFC bantamweight challenger, Pedro 'The Young Punisher' Munhoz has been pulled from his UFC Fight Island co-main event on July 15th. against former lightweight champion, Frankie 'The Answer' Edgar - having provided a positive test result for COVID-19 earlier today.
The Brazilian contender was expected to take co-headlining honours opposite veteran all-rounder Edgar, with the latter making his bantamweight bow following a cancelled division debut against Cory Sandhagen at UFC Fight Night Raleigh in January. News of the cancelled bout was initially reported by Raul Lopez.
Munhoz last featured against number-one contender, Aljamain 'Funk Master' Sterling at UFC 238 last June - dropping a decision, while Edgar was expected to make his division mark following a short-notice knockout loss to perennial contender, Chan Sung Jung in the main event of UFC Fight Night Busan in December in a featherweight tie.
It's believed the promotion is actively searching for a replacement for Munhoz which would allow Edgar to compete on the card and make his bantamweight debut. Recent features, Ricky Simon, and Marlon Vera have expressed their respective interest in replacing the guillotine-specialist in a short-notice turnaround - as well as Tiger Schulmann trainee, Jimmie Rivera.
