A mouth-watering featherweight pairing of devastating strikers, Jeremy 'Lil Heathen' Stephens, and Edson 'Jr.' Barboza is currently targeted to feature at a UFC Fight Night event on October 3rd. - with a location and venue yet to be determined by the organization.
Both Stephens and Barboza made their most recent respective Octagon walks in May at UFC events in Jacksonville, Florida. For Stephens, the veteran puncher dropped a massive second-round knockout loss to surging contender, Calvin Kattar.
Muay Thai practitioner, Barboza, found himself on the wrong side of a highly-contentious split decision judging opposite, Dan Ige - in his featherweight division bow. Combate's, Raphael Marinho was first to report the earmarked featherweight bout.
Stephens' crushing elbow stoppage loss to Kattar, marked his fourth loss in five outings, with his most recent victory coming opposite Josh Emmett at UFC Fight Night Orlando in February of 2018.
With nineteen knockout triumphs, the Iowa native is revered as one of the most punishing strikers in recent promotion history - with stoppage wins coming against former lightweight titleholder, Rafael dos Anjos, Doo Ho Choi, Rony Jason, Dennis Bermudez, Cole Miller, and Marcus Davis.
A twenty-eight fight lightweight veteran, following a string of four losses in five outings, similarly to Stephens - Nova Friburgo native, Barboza tested 145-pounds waters for the first time in his lengthy career.
The Anderson França trained striker - again like Stephens, is known best for his striking ability but utilises Muay Thai technique rather than boxing bases. In highlight Octagon wins, Barboza has stopped, Dan Hooker, Beneil Dariush, Evan Dunham, Lucas Martins, Rafaello Oliveira, and maybe most notably, finished Terry Etim with a stunning wheel-kick knockout.
