Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, the father and trainer of UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, has sadly passed away this morning in a Moscow hospital, amid COVID-19 complications aged 57-years-old.
Abdulmanap, a renowned sambo trainer in his native Dagestan was admitted to a Moscow military hospital in May after he had been struck with pneumonia-like symptoms. Upon an eventual coronavirus test, the 57-year-old returned a positive test result.
Nurmagomedov suffered a heart attack amid complications from COVID-19 before he was placed in a medically induced coma. Despite waking from a comatose state - Nurmagomedov would be placed in a coma once again as his condition steadily deteriorated. Khabib had recently explained how he visited his father's hospital side every day, and how he was in a stable but serious condition, however, Chechen Republic leader, Ramzan Kadyrov confirmed the passing of Abdulmanap today.
Abdulmanap had been a staple member of his son's camp - featuring in his corner for his last outing at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi last September. Nurmagomedov featured prominently in Khabib's camp for his eventual rear-naked choke unification win against Dustin Poirier, having introduced his son to sambo from an early age.
Deepest condolences and thoughts are offered to Khabib and the entire Nurmagomedov family at this time.
