A bantamweight bout between top-ten contenders, Jimmie 'El Terror' Rivera, and Cody 'The Spartan' Stamann has been added to a UFC Fight Night event on July 15th. - from Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Tiger Schulmann trainee, Rivera last competed at UFC 238 in June of last year, dropping his second consecutive defeat, in a unanimous decision loss to vacant division title challenger, Petr Yan. Grand Rapids native, Stamann featured at UFC 250 last month, taking a victory over Brian Kelleher in an emotional bout, following the passing of his younger brother. News of the matchup was initially reported by MMA Fighting reporter, Mike Heck.
New Jersey-born all-rounder, Rivera has dropped three defeats in his last four outings, including prior losses to one-time title challenger, Marlon Moraes, and number-one contender, Aljamain 'Funk Master' Sterling. Before his stunning head-kick knockout loss to Moraes, Rivera had managed five consecutive Octagon wins - taking triumphs over, Pedro Munhoz, Iuri Alcântara, Urijah Faber, and kickboxing ace, Thomas Almeida.
Xtreme Couture mover, Stamann has scored a three-fight undefeated run in as many outings. Before his judging win over the aforementioned, Kelleher, Stamann had managed to take a unanimous decision win over Alejandro Perez, in between a contentious majority draw opposite fellow division prospect, Song Yadong. Since his promotional bow back in July of 2017 - the wrestling based contender has scored other wins over Terrion Ware, Tom Duquesnoy, and Bryan Caraway.
