One-time interim UFC light heavyweight title challenger, Ovince Saint Preux will return to 205-pounds, following a brief excursion a division higher in May. On August 22nd at a UFC Fight Night event - the Florida native will look to finally lock horns with undefeated prospect, Shamil Gamzatov.

Saint Preux and Gamzatov were scheduled to meet in April - until the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic prevented the latter's travel to the United States before the entire event was shelved.

In a short-notice move to heavyweight, Saint Preux met with veteran contender, Ben Rothwell at UFC Fight Night Jacksonville - where he dropped a split judging loss in a close back-and-forth bout. 14-0 prospect, Gamzatov last featured at UFC Fight Night Moscow in November - scoring a close split decision win over Klidson Abreu. News of the reworked pairing was initially penned by MMA Fighting reporter, Damon Martin.

Adept finisher, Saint Preux had managed an incredible fourth Von Flue choke win of his career before his loss to the above-noted, Rothwell - as he returned to winning-ways against, Michaŀ Oleksiejczuk last September. With eleven knockout wins and eight submission successes - the 37-year-old has managed eye-catching wins over Maurício 'Shogun' Rua, Nikita Krylov, Tyson Pedro, Corey Anderson, Rafael Feijão, and Yushin Okami.

Dagestan native, Gamzatov improved his professional record to 14-0 last time out, in a promotional debut win over the aforenoted, Abreu. Prior to his signature with the UFC last year - the 29-year-old had competed under the PFL, ACB, and WSOF banners. Similarly to his opponent, Saint Preux - Gamzatov is also quite proficient with his striking and grappling, notching ten finishes since his professional bow back in January of 2012.
