Cage Warriors Titleholder Mads Burnell Inks Deal With Bellator MMA

Cage Warriors featherweight best, Mads Burnell has made the transition to Bellator MMA - putting pen to paper on a deal with the Scott Coker led promotion.

The 26-year-old Denmark submission threat has managed four consecutive victories since he was released from the UFC back in September 2018 following a submission defeat to Arnold Allen - including a Cage Warriors 145-pound title win against Dean Trueman last June. News of Burnell's signature to the North American based organization was first revealed by TSN reporter, Aaron Bronsteter.

With eight separate submission successes, the Husum native last featured at Cage Warriors 111, taking a unanimous decision triumph over Steve Aimable in a non-title affair, after the latter had marginally tipped the scales at 145.2-pounds.

A European Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi champion, Burnell featured three times under the UFC's banner between 2017 and 2018. Establishing a 1-2 record, Burnell notched a unanimous judging opposite, Mike Santiago, in between defeats to the always game pair of Michel Prazeres, and the aforenoted, Allen.

As part of his previously mentioned winning run, Burnell has also defeated both Ahmed Vila and Lukasz Rajewski in submission triumphs.

Burnell becomes the latest Cage Warriors world champion to make the transition to either the UFC or Bellator, with former light heavyweight titleholder, Modestas Bukauskas penning a multi-fight deal to feature in the Octagon - while former welterweight best, Ross Houston prepares for an upcoming Bellator bow.
