A huge bantamweight matchup for the vacant Bellator MMA bantamweight championship has been agreed upon for an event on September 21st. Recent featherweight title challenger, Juan 'The Spaniard' Archuleta is slated to meet with undefeated contender, Patchy 'No Love' Mix - with a location and venue yet to be determined by the promotion.

Japanese standout, Kyoji 'The Typhoon' Horiguchi was forced to vacate the bantamweight throne back in November of last year, after suffering an injury. The former RIZIN FF bantamweight best had defeated Darrion 'The Wolf' Caldwell to win the crown back at Bellator 222 last June.

Following his title challenge loss to current kingpin, Patrício 'Pitbull' at Bellator 228 last September - Hesperia native, Archuleta rebounded to the win column. Making his return in January, Archuleta secured a unanimous decision win over promotional mainstay, Henry Corrales.

Undefeated in thirteen outings, Buffalo-born top-contender, Mix last featured at a RIZIN FF and Bellator co-promoted event on New Years's Eve last. Matching with the experienced, Yuki Motoya - Mix managed an opening-round guillotine victory. News of the vacant title pairing was initially penned by ESPN reporter, Brett Okamoto.

Archuleta, 32, seen his staggering eighteen-fight winning spree ended by Brazilian standout, 'Pitbull' in September. The talented wrestler has strung together a five-fight winning run under the Bellator banner, securing two knockouts in the process.

On his win column, we've got finishes of both Eduardo Dantas and Robbie Peralta, as well as unanimous judging victories over William Joplin, Jeremy Spoon, and American Top Team all-rounder, Ricky Bandejas.

Despite featuring just three times under Bellator's scrutiny - Jackson-Wink MMA trainee, Mix has made a huge impression already. Touted as one of the most talented prospects on the North American scene - the 27-year-old has blitzed through the bantamweight pile.

Opposite common opponent, the aforenoted, Bandejas - Mix managed an eye-catching rear-naked choke win inside the very first minute. When faced with the late, Isiah Chapman, Mix managed a first-frame Suloev stretch submission. Rounding off his so far promotional perfect run, Mix took his previously noted end of year stoppage of, Motoya.
