Dana White: Dustin Poirier 'Probably' Next For Tony Ferguson

It's a dream matchup for fans of the UFC's ever-developing lightweight division. Former interim titleholders, Tony Ferguson vs. Dustin Poirier. According to the promotion's leader, Dana White - the Lafayette native is, "probably" next for Ferguson in one of the most exciting fights on paper possible at the moment.

Ferguson last featured in a short-notice UFC 249 headliner opposite, Justin Gaethje in May - dropping his twelve fight undefeated run at 155-pounds, in an interim title tilt. Fellow former interim spoils holder, Poirier managed a return to the win column at a UFC Vegas main event in June - grabbing a unanimous judging win over the streaking, Dan Hooker in an instant division classic.

Speaking at last night's UFC Fight Night Vegas 7's post-fight press event, White was asked by, Oscar Willis from, The Mac Life - if Ferguson had a fight in the pipeline, and more to the point, could he stand across from Poirier next. Remaining somewhat coy, White smirked, "probably".

Ferguson, one of the most well-rounded contenders in the history of the lightweight ranks, shared a division tying undefeated run with current champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov - a surge which was stopped by the aforementioned, Gaethje.

Boasting a staggering winning résumé - the Oxnard native has notched prior wins over, 'Cowboy' Cerrone, Anthony Pettis, Rafael dos Anjos, Kevin Lee, Edson Barboza, Josh Thomson, and Yves Edwards to name a few.

One of the slickest boxers on the promotion's books - American Top Team trainee, Poirier added the above mentioned, Hooker to a similarly glimmering professional record. Among the former interim best's win column - Max Holloway (x2), Eddie Alvarez, as well as the previously noted, Pettis and Gaethje - becoming the last man to overcome the current interim titleholder.
