Ray Borg Released From UFC Contract Following UFC Vegas Withdrawal

One-time UFC flyweight title challenger, Ray 'The Tazmexican Devil' Borg has been officially released from his UFC contract - following his withdrawal from UFC Fight Night Vegas 5 last weekend.

Borg, 27, withdrew from his scheduled bout with promotional newcomer, Nathan Maness ahead of the August 1st. - for undisclosed reasons. This marked the second such occasion since June, Borg had to withdraw from a matching, with a clash opposite Merab Dvalishvili at UFC Fight Night Vegas 2 shelved after Borg was forced to remove himself from the bantamweight meeting - due to health issues surrounding his son. UFC officials confirmed Borg's release to MMA Fighting, with reporter, Damon Martin first to report the news.

The Tuscon, Arizona native last featured at UFC Fight Night Jacksonville in May, dropping a hugely competitive back-and-forth to bantamweight contender, Ricky Simón in a split judging defeat. The defeat marked Borg's first since a forced move to bantamweight, following victories over Rogério Bontorin, and Gabriel Silva.

On four occasions under the UFC's scrutiny, Borg tipped the scales, in both flyweight and bantamweight outings. Back in October of 2017 - the Jacksons MMAcoma trainee challenged former flyweight champion, Demetrious 'Mighty Mouse' Johnson for the title - dropping a stunning final round suplex-armbar.

Establishing a 7-5 promotional résumé - Borg notched high-profile victories over longtime flyweight contender, Brazilian grappler, Jussier Formiga, as well as contender, Louis Smolka.

Borg and his partner, Amanda - welcomed a newborn son, Anthony back in 2018, who was born with hydrocephalus. The condition causes an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. Multiple people within the sport offered financial support to Borg and his family, including former UFC light heavyweight contender, podcast host and comedian, Brendan Schaub - and former UFC bantamweight titleholder, Cody Garbrandt.
