The fiery meeting between striking experts, Jeremy 'Lil' Heathen' Stephens, and Boston's Calvin Kattar, will take place - just not at UFC 248 in March. The highly-anticipated meeting of two of the featherweight division's most traversed finishers has hit a snag, as former lightweight contender, Stephens, has been forced from the tie after suffering an injury. News of the rescheduled pairing was first reported by MMA Junkie writer, Nolan King.
Both Stephens and Kattar are eager to return to the winner's enclosure, with both losing unanimous decision judgings to, Yair Rodríguez, and Zabit Magomedsharipov, toward the tail end of last year. The rematch defeat to Mexico's Rodríguez capped off a year to forget for 33-year-old Stephens, who hasn't had his hand raised in the Octagon since his early 2018 knockout victory over the punishing, Josh Emmett - which marked an astonishing nineteenth knockout triumph for the Iowa native.
Massachusetts native, Kattar, has made some big impressions during his three-year stint with the promotion, losing just once more before his defeat to the previously noted Magomedsharipov - in a three-round affair with Brazilian all-rounder, Renato Moicano. The 31-year-old has won four bouts during his early stages with the organization, including a debut triumph over the rising prospect, Andre Fili. Other names on Kattar's impressive professional résumé are former Cage Warriors lightweight best, Chris Fishgold, one-time featherweight title challenger, Ricardo Lamas, and fellow contender, Shane Burgos.
As of yet, an event to host the rebooking of Stephens vs. Kattar is yet to be announced.
