Ahead of their UFC 246 meeting on Saturday night, former WEC and UFC lightweight title challenger, Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone has refused to be drawn on speculation regarding opponent, 'The Notorious' Conor McGregor's personal life.
The Denver native will return to the welterweight limit after a four-fight return to 155-pounds in search of a final Octagon title push. The tension between the two is almost non-existent, with a certain respect and admiration shared between the pair. During his interview with ESPN staff writer, Brett Okamoto, Cerrone refused to investigate the recent controversy McGregor has been involved in during the course of last year. 'Cowboy' explained how "everyone makes mistakes".
"Oh, I'm not gonna talk about him as a human, man," Cerrone told Okamoto who questioned his opinion on the transformation McGregor's had over the previous three years. "That's his (Conor McGregor's) own business. Sucks, the guy's under a microscope. Everything he does, everyone follows and watches, you know? Everyone makes mistakes. The media and every one dwells on him. Him as a fighter, man, he's on top of the world. He got in there and fought, what I think, is one of the best boxers (Floyd Mayweather) to ever walk the earth, you know? And, the dudes a double champ, knocks people out, he's a f**king stud, man. He's here because he earned it. He did very good, building the UFC, building his name, building his brand and that's hard work and dedication, the man's a hard worker. As an athlete, he's a f**king stud, you know? I think he earned all this."
For Conor McGregor, the former featherweight and lightweight best will make his first appearance since October 2018, where he lost a heated main event against rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov. At UFc 246 this Saturday, Cerrone will make his fifth Octagon walk since November of 2018, following matches against Mike Perry, Alexander Hernandez, Al Iaquinta, Tony Ferguson, and Justin Gaethje.
