Kamaru Usman vs. Jorge Masvidal Targeted For International Fight Week In July

According to the promotion president, Usman vs. Masvidal will take place in July.

A welterweight title bout between reigning champion, Kamaru 'The Nigerian Nightmare' Usman, and recent BMF championship victor, Jorge 'Gamebred' Masvidal is expected to headline a UFC event at International Fight Week in July, according to promotional president, Dana White.

Both Usman and Masvidal have been on a certain collision-course over previous weeks - following Usman's successful title defense against former Interim champion, Colby Covington, last December, while Masvidal managed a third-round doctor's stoppage over fan-favorite, Nate Diaz at UFC 244 in November last. Masvidal capped off a spectacular 2019 with the victory over Diaz, as he lodged a record-setting flying-knee knockout of the then-undefeated, Ben Askren, and one-time welterweight title chaser, Darren Till.

Speaking on The Jim Rome Show, White claimed that Usman and Masvidal will finally share the Octagon in July at the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas.

"Him (Jorge Masvidal) and (Kamaru) Usman will fight in Vegas, probably International Fight Week. And then if he wins, maybe we'll do his (Masvidal's) first title defense in Miami. We hadn't announced it yet, but now this has forced me to announce it."

As of yet a pay-per-view event for July's International Fight Week is yet to be confirmed by the promotion. The event is expected to take place from the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
