SBG head coach, John Kavanagh, has outlined how impressed he's been with Conor McGregor's camp, and training regime, ahead of the Dubliner's welterweight clash with Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone on January 18th. at UFC 246. Taking to social media last night, the Dublin based coach has told how McGregor, who spent the majority of his training camp for the bout with Cerrone at SBG Ireland in the capital, along with SBG Naas, a facility-based south of Dublin in County Kildare, "is the best I've seen him and I wasn't sure that was possible to do 6 months ago". The former two-weight world champion has seemingly packed on a few pounds over the previous month or so in preparation for the move to welterweight, similarly to his August 2016 appearance at the 170-pound weight limit.

With the usual press-junket surrounding a McGregor fight seemingly put on the back-burner for this tie - a reset and focus on preparation has taken focal point for this bout. Against former UFC lightweight championship challenger, Cerrone, McGregor will enter the Octagon for the first time since his UFC 229 defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov in October 2018. January 18th. also represents a return to 170-pounds for 'The Notorious' one, a weight he hasn't featured at since his UFC 202 rematch with Nate Diaz.

UFC President, Dana White, has explained how the pairing of McGregor and Cowboy at welterweight comes down to the two's reluctance to cut-weight - but a victory for McGregor over the Denver based Cerrone, offers him the opportunity to meet recent BMF championship victor, Jorge 'Gamebred' Masvidal in a blockbuster meeting this summer. White has spoken in the past of his hesitation to pit Masvidal and McGregor together due to the apparent size difference - but in recent days, he has told how it's a matchup the 31-year-old McGregor has called for continuously. And a match between Masvidal and the SBG star is arguably the biggest tie the promotion could make in 2020.
