Jimmie Rivera Out Of UFC 247 Bout With Marlon Vera Due To Injury

Jimmie Rivera's comeback has been restricted for the time being.

UFC 247 is now short a bantamweight bout. An exciting clash between Jimmie 'El Terror' Rivera and Marlon 'Chito' Vera has been scrapped - after Tiger Schulmann trainee, Rivera has withdrawn from the matchup due to an, as of yet, undisclosed injury. News of the injury was first reported by MMA Junkie staff writer, Nolan King.

New Jersey native, Rivera, was expected to feature against Vera on the February 8th. card in Houston, Texas, as he attempts to prevent a three-fight skid. The 30-year-old has dropped losses to top bantamweight contenders, Petr Yan, and Aljamain Sterling, after returning to the win column against two-time flyweight championship chaser, John Dodson. Jimmie Rivera currently holds the #7 rank at bantamweight.

Ecuadorian finisher, Vera, has blasted his way through the bantamweight ranks since August 2018, securing five eye-catching victories since then. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt managed five straight finishes, including impressive stoppages of Frankie Saenz, Nohelin Hernandez and most recently, Andre Ewell. Vera currently occupies the #14 rank at 135-pounds.

As of yet, the promotion are yet to comment on the pairing - and if Vera will remain on the UFC 247 card, or if the tie will remain, and similarly to featherweight's Jeremy Stephens, and Calvin Kattar - feature on a later card.

UFC 247 takes place on February 8th. from the Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas - with a double-header of championship meetings expected to feature. In the event's headliner, light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones looks to lodge another successful title defense, when he meets with undefeated contender, Dominick Reyes. Taking co-main event status, reigning flyweight queen, Valentina Shevchenko meets with perennial contender, Katlyn Chookagian. A heavyweight pairing has also been booked for the event as Juan Adams meets Justin Tafa. At featherweight, Mirsad Bektic takes on Dan Ige. Opening the main card, one-time heavyweight title challenger, Derrick Lewis welcomes Sweden's Ilir Latifi back to the division.

In middleweight action, Trevon Gilles pairs up with Antonio Arroyo. In a high-stakes flyweight match up, Lauren Murphy tackles contender, Andrea Lee. At bantamweight, Miles Johns meets with Mario Bautista. At 135-pounds, Journey Newson clashes with Domingo Pilarte. The aforementioned Andre Ewell opens proceedings as he meets with Jonathan Martinez.
