Jeremy Stephens vs. Calvin Kattar Rescheduled For UFC 249

It's take two for a featherweight pairing between, Jeremy 'Lil' Heathen' Stephens and Calvin Kattar. After a slight hiccup, the meeting will now feature at UFC 249 in a rescheduled bout. Originally expected to meet at UFC 248, the two exciting featherweight finishers hit a snag, after promotion veteran Stephens, picked up a niggling injury. News of the rebooked pairing was first reported by MMA Fighting reporter, Damon Martin. Stephens and Kattar will now meet on April 18th. instead of March 7th.
Stephens will attempt to prevent a four straight defeat at 145-pounds, following losses to former champion, José Aldo, and rising contenders, Zabit Magomedsharipov, and Yair Rodríguez over the course of last year. The former lightweight challenger made a brief surge toward championship contender status, lodging brutal knockout finishes of Do Ho Choi, Josh Emmett, and a dominant decision triumph over former Strikeforce lightweight best, Gilbert 'El Nino' Melendez.
Boston native Kattar recently dropped just his second Octagon defeat, in a close three-round headliner against the aforementioned Magomedsharipov at UFC Fight Night Moscow. Before the defeat, Kattar had managed knockout wins over former Cage Warriors lightweight champion, Chris Fishgold, and one-time featherweight title challenger, Ricardo Lamas. Along with those eye-catching wins, Kattar has secured victories over the promising, Andre Fili, and his fellow up-and-coming contender, Shane Burgos.
UFC 249 will take place on April 18th. from the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York, with a lightweight championship clash taking headlining status. Reigning division best, Khabib Nurmagomedov is expected to finally meet perennial contender and former interim champion, Tony Ferguson, at the fifth time of asking. In a strawweight pairing, two former division champions meet in a high-stakes rematch, as Jéssica Andrade faces off with Rose Namajunas. At middleweight TUF alumni, Uriah Hall will meet with one-time Strikeforce middleweight best, Jacaré Souza. In a heavyweight pairing, Ben Rothwell welcomes Gian Villante to the division. In an exciting lightweight bout, Khama Worthy takes on Ottman Azaitar.
