Jeremy Stephens vs. Calvin Kattar Scheduled For UFC 248
|
The explosive hitter, Jeremy Stephens, is looking to prevent a fourth straight loss at featherweight and kickstart his year, following losses to Rodríguez, Magomedsharipov, and former division best, José Aldo. Two years ago, Stephens was making a steady climb toward championship challenger status, following two straight brutal knockouts of Josh Emmet, and Doo Ho Choi, after a decision shutout against former Strikeforce lightweight champion, Gilbert Melendez.
Boston native, Kattar, made his promotional bow just three years ago and has quickly established himself as a legitimate contender at featherweight. The 31-year-old lost a close bout to the aforementioned Magomedsharipov recently, in a bout which Zabit was seemingly slowing down dramatically in. With sharp hands and boxing, Kattar has handed defeats to fellow prospects, Andre Fili, Shane Burgos, and Chris Fishgold - as well as a knockout of former featherweight title challenger, Ricardo Lamas. Between Stephens and Kattar, the pair have a combined twenty-eight separate knockout finishes.
UFC 248 takes place on March 7th. from the T-Mobile Arena, with no main event currently set by the promotion. In a co-main event pairing, Zhang Weili will look to defend her strawweight title for the first time, as she meets former division queen, Joanna Jędrzejczyk. In a monstrous middleweight meeting, former champion, Robert Whittaker takes on rising contender, Jared Cannonier. At 170-pounds, Neil Magny returns as he takes on Li Jingliang. In a meeting of lightweight contenders, talented grappler, Beneil Dariush is paired with Drakkar Klose. At 115-pounds, Emily Whitmire matches up with Polyana Viana. In a bantamweight clash, Guido Cannetti squares off against Danna Batgerel.
