Maycee Barber will be sidelined for at least nine months.

Along with suffering her first professional defeat on Saturday night at UFC 246 - exciting flyweight prospect, Maycee 'The Future' Barber suffered a complete tear of her anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee, according to her father, Bucky Barber.

The 21-year-old Colorado native was the victim of a grappling masterclass against mixed-martial-arts veteran, Roxanne 'The Happy Warrior' Modafferi on her way to a major upset, unanimous decision defeat. Barber, who had gone 3-0 before last weekend, was dropped early in the second round with a partially-landed jab from Modafferi - but upon further inspection, we can see Barber's left knee buckle. Speaking with ESPN, the Roufusport trainee's father, Bucky, spoke of the injury.

"We think she injured it in the first ten seconds," Bucky Barber said. "She stepped on Roxanne's foot as she backed up, and felt a pop (in her left knee). You can see the knee give out on that side. She went back and started fighting and trying to do things and I noticed she was flat in a way I've never seen before."

Bucky's claims follow a quite peculiar moment in between rounds two and three of the bout, where an NSAC doctor entered the Octagon, told Barber to sit on the canvas before he began contorting her left leg, before informing referee, Jason Herzog, that the 21-year-old has suffered a "small, partial tear of her ACL", to which UFC color-commentator Joe Rogan replied, "Is that guy a human MRI?" Barber is expected to be sidelined for at least nine months. In an admirable but ultimately fruitless performance, Barber also suffered a rather nasty cut on her hairline after Modafferi landed a slicing elbow from mount in the second round.
