Paige VanZant Injured, Amanda Ribas Now Faces Randa Markos At UFC Brasilia

Paige VanZant has once more been shelved due to injury.

UFC strawweight contender, Paige '12 Gauge' VanZant has been forced UFC Fight Night Brasilia clash with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace, Amanda Ribas - who has subsequently been paired with recent victor, Randa Markos. News of the injury was initially reported by Combate writers, Gleidson Venga, and Raphael Marinho

VanZant was expected to make her first Octagon walk since her January 2019 armbar victory over Rachael Ostovich - has been forced to the sidelines once more in her naive career, following an as of yet, undisclosed injury. The Oregon native recently recovered from surgery on a broken arm, sustained in a decision loss to Jessica Rose-Clark. Injuries and surgeries have limited the 25-year-old striker to just two Octagon appearances in as many years.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, Amanda Ribas, will make somewhat of a homecoming on March 14th. as she returns to Brazil. The strawweight contender has been flawless so far in her brief two-fight UFC tenure, which has seen her submit Emily Whitmire and out-strike fellow grappling sensation, Mackenzie Dern over three rounds to hand the prospect her first professional defeat. Ribas managed to secure the #15 rank at 115-pounds.

Iraq born submission specialist, Randa 'Quiet Storm' Markos recently returned to the win column after a high-profile loss to former strawweight title challenger, Cláudia Gadelha. The Canada based 34-year-old picked up a close split decision triumph over Ashley Yoder. Before the defeat to Ribas' country-women, Gadelha, Markos managed an impressive armbar victory over former Invicta FC strawweight world champion, Angela Hill.

UFC Fight Night Brasilia takes place on March 14th. from the Ginásio Nilson Nelson arena. In the main event of the evening, a high-stakes lightweight pairing closes the show, as one-time interim lightweight championship challenger, Kevin Lee looks to extend his win steak to two, against six-fight surging grappler, Charles Oliveira. A co main-event has been penned for the event, in what promises to be a grappling showcase between Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champions, Demian Maia, and Gilbert Burns.

In more action at 170-pounds, Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos will make his Octagon return as he meets with the previously noted, Alexey Kunchenko. At 205-pounds, the exciting Johnny Walker will feature against Ukrainian grappler, Nikita Krylov. 125-pound championship hopefuls, Jussier Formiga and Brandon Moreno will also feature on the card. Talented grappler, Rani Yahya will also feature at the event as he takes on Peru's, Enrique Barzola. At 135-pounds, Veronica Macedo will face off with Bea Malecki. In heavyweight action, Carlos Felipe meets Jeff Hughes. at 125-pounds, Maryna Moroz tackles Mayra Bueno Silva.
