Emil Meek picks up decisive decision in his Octagon debut against Jordan Mein

The opening bout of the main card of UFC 206's main card, seen a battle between UFC debutant, Emil Meek and Canadian Jordan Mein. Meek, making his octagon debut tonight, holds a notable victory over former UFC submission specialist Rousimar 'Toquiho' Palharas, while Mein has 19 first round finishes to his name. Dan Miragliotta refereed this bout. The opening round traded leg kicks early on. Mein scored an early single leg, before clipping Meek on the feet. Mein scored another takedown, before Meek looked for a guillotine. Meek was in danger of succumbing to a Von Flue choke, before Meek scored a big shot on the feet. Meek landed a solid body kick before Mein landed a decent straight. Mein then scored another takedown, before Meek screamed in agony, clutching his ribs. Meek then tagged Mein once more before missing with a flying knee attempt. Solid first round for both fighters, Mein wins it for me with the multiple takedowns. Meek then ate another leg kick, before swinging for the fences with strikes. Meek then landed a good takedown of his own. Meek passed to half guard, with the Norwegian looking to setup an arm triangle. Mein escaped the arm triangle attempt with a clever hip escape. Second round to Emil Meek. The third and final round could determine the winner of this fight, with Mein looking a bit more tentative as the fight goes on. Mein wound up on the mat again in the third. Mein could be criticised for not trying to sweep Meek as he just lay on his back absorbing punishment. Mein looked for a desperate armbar attempt late on, with Meek in very little danger. Third and final round for Emil Meek. The judges handed Emil Meek a unanimous decision victory to mark a successful octagon debut.
