'Cowboy' picks up highlight reel KO after Brown's determined showing.
The co-main event of UFC 206 sees a Welterweight matchup between recent rivals, Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone and 'The Immortal' Matt Brown. Cerrone, a fan favourite wherever he fights has finished all three of his Welterweight contests, while Brown is on a two fight slide, losing to Demian Maia and Jake Ellenberger. 'Big' John McCarthy got us underway with Cerrone opening up with a good leg kick. Cerrone hurt Brown with a good liver kick early on, the same kick which Ellenberger used to finish Brown last time out. Brown got tagged with a great switch kick from 'Cowboy'. Matt Brown then scored another body shot, this time a left hook. Brown's pressure style of fighting paid dividends when he slipped with a head kick, Cerrone dove into Brown's full guard, where he was almost caught in a triangle, Brown then lost the submission as Cerrone escaped. Brown displayed his equally good Muay Thai background as he landed a knee in the plumb clinch. Brown dropped Cerrone with a straight right as the buzzer sounded. First round to Matt Brown. The second of three scheduled rounds seen Brown open with a teep kick to the body of 'Cowboy'. Cerrone, known for his power kicks, landed another quick leg kick. Cerrone then seen his switch kick blocked, before a patient Brown picked his shot and dropped Cerrone once more. Brown then stuffed a double leg by 'Cowboy' before Cerrone landed a good elbow on the break. An action packed second round seen Cerrone cracking Brown with a head kick before a straight dropped his former teammate. Cerrone was working his seasoned jab well, turning Brown's right eye to a bloody mess. Cerrone's head kick echoed around the Air Canada Centre as he looked more impressive as the second went on. Cerrone once more landed that damaging head kick as Brown missed with a wheel kick attempt as the round came to an end. The third and final round of the co-main event began with both men hugging it out fore Brown landed another takedown. Cerrone stunned Brown with a good right hand. Cerrone the with an almost inevitable head kick, knocked Brown out cold. A tough fight for 'Cowboy' who weathered the storm to move to 4-0 at Welterweight.
