Conor McGregor's return may come in August 2017:
Current UFC Lightweight champion, 'The Notorious' Conor McGregor, may be absent from the UFC octagon until August 2017, with organisation president Dana White telling how he expects the Dubliner to take "10 months" off, with him and partner Dee Devlin expecting their first child in May. Earlier in the month, McGregor's previously conquered Featherweight division, witnessed a shake up, after former pound-for-pound king José Aldo was awarded the undisputed title, as fellow top Featherweights Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis battle for the Interim Featherweight strap at Canada's UFC 206 this weekend. If White's claims are true, we may see a similar backlog in the 155lbs division. Lightweight champion McGregor, has been called out multiple times by Lightweight undefeated contender Khabib Nurmagomedov, supreme grappler Tony 'El Cucuy' Ferguson, and one can imagine, if Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone can pick up a win against Matt Brown at UFC 206, a Lightweight title fight against Conor may be enough to entice the fan favourite back to the division. The polarising McGregor has drawn recent criticism from everyone from José Aldo to Lightweight Kevin Lee, with Aldo claiming he was never the real champion, and told how his victory was only a "fluke" and a "mistake", while 'The Motown Phenom' told how McGregor only has "years on me", before telling how he's taller longer and a better wrestler than the champ. If McGregor was to return next August, we may see him in a boxing ring instead of an octagon, after he was granted a boxing license in on the state of California, with a bout with Floyd 'Money' Mayweather seemingly on the horizon, while fellow American Paul Malignaggi told how he would easily beat McGregor in a boxing bout.
