Robert Whittaker scores stunning first round finish over Brunson.

The main event if UFC Fight Night 101 in Melbourne Australia, sees a Middleweight clash between Aussie favourite Robert 'The Reaper' Whittaker and recent knockout artist Derek Brunson. A win for either men would most certainly propel them into title talk contention. Whittaker started the more cautious, expecting an explosive Brunson, before defending a double leg and clipping Brunson on the exit with an uppercut. Both men then landed good left hands, with Whittaker against the fence, defending the single leg attempt from Brunson. Brunson gave up on the takedown attempt and swarmed Whittaker, almost Vitor Belfort esque forcing Whittaker to find some space. Some sloppy chasing gave Whittaker a break as they engaged in the clinch with 2 minutes of the round over. Brunson displayed his superior wrestling ability when he landed a big takedown, only for Whittaker to pop right back up. Both men were throwing looking for the finish, with Brunson again plodding forward before getting clipped by a good left hand from Whittaker which stunned the American. Whittaker then landed a straight left and a huge head kick, but Brunson somehow stayed on his feet. A flurry of uppercuts sent Brunson to the mat before Whttaker then landed some clubbing blows, forcing Herb Dean to step in.
