Tyron Woodley narrowly defends his UFC Welterweight title:
The co-main of UFC 205 sees a UFC Welterweight title fight between Tyron 'The Chosen One' Woodley and karate expert Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thomspon. Woodley made easy work of Robbie Lawler back at UFC 201 to claim the title, while Thompson won a decision against Rory MacDonald to setup this bout with Woodley. Dan Miragliotta got us underway for the first of five scheduled rounds. Thompson missed with an early leg kick, with Woodley keeping his distance early on. Thompson's head kick was caught by Woodley who immediatley moved to side control and laid down some ground and pound. Thompson was covered in claret by the end of the first after some vicious elbows from Woodley. Woodley changed gear as he clinched but Thompson escaped. Thompson landed a good spinning back kick to Woodley's mid-section which hurt the St Louis native. It was one way traffic from then on, with Thompson pinning Woodley to the outside s the second round ended. The third round began with a good front leg side kick to the chest of Woodley. A spell for Thompson, was countered by a stumbling leg kick by Woodley. Woodley did land a good right hand as the third round came to its conclusion. The fourth round seen Thomspson dropped multiple times, where Dan Miragliotta could have easily stopped the contest. Thompson somehow survived what seemed an impossible to escape guillotine, but the Simpsonville native somehow escaped and made it to the fifth and final round. Thompson closed the distance in the fifth and was tagging Woodley who couldn't seem to find a home for his punches. The judges decided on a majority draw as Tyron Woodley successfully defended his UFC Welterweight title.
