A UFC strawweight matchup between former title challenger, Cláudia Gadelha, and Angela 'Overkill' Hill, is set to feature at a UFC Fight Night event on May 16th. at the VyStar Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.
Gadelha - has been out of action since July of last year, where she took a unanimous decision win over Randa Markos. The Brazilian was scheduled to meet with Alexa Grasso at UFC 246 in January until the bout was shelved after Grasso tipped the scales at 121.5 pounds for the strawweight matchup. Gadelha was then expected to square-off with Muay Thai specialist and compatriot, Marina Rodriguez at UFC Fight Night Oklahoma City on May 2nd. - until the card was cancelled, amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The always active, Hill, last competed at UFC Fight Night Auckland in February - taking a unanimous decision judging against Loma Lookboonme on short-notice. The victory served as Hill's second victory of the year already, following a second-round stoppage of Hannah Cifers at UFC Fight Night Raleigh the month prior.
31-year-old grappler, Gadelha, has managed three wins from five outings since her heated championship rematch defeat to Joanna Jędrzejczyk back in July of 2016. The Rio Grande de Notre native has managed wins over Cortney Casey, fellow former title chaser, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, and inaugural 115-pound champion, Carla Esparza since then. Her victory over Markos last year allowed the Nick Catone trainee to secure the #6 rank at strawweight.
Maryland native, Hill, has become one of the most popular figures in mixed-martial-arts today, due to her seemingly always booked schedule. Since June of last year, Hill has featured in the Octagon an incredible four separate times. Before the aforementioned wins over Lookboonme, and Cifers, the 33-year-old managed a stoppage of Ariane Carnelossi. Hill began her second UFC stint back in 2017, losing a decision to former gold-holder, Jéssica Andrade on her return. The Alliance MMA product is a former Invicta FC strawweight champion, defeating Livia Renata Souza to take the throne - before defending against Kaline Medeiros. A victory over Gadelha would most certainly see Hill crack the division's top fifteen rankings.
