UFC 251 in Perth officially postponed

Amid the promotion's plans to continue with a makeshift schedule, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has claimed yet another event. The organization were expected to return 'Down Under' this coming June for UFC 251 in Perth on June 7th. That event has now officially been postponed by the UFC.
The event - which was slated to take place at the RAC Arena, was tentatively set to feature a featherweight title rematch between hometown hero, Alexander Volkanovski, and Max Holloway - following their clash in December last. Rounding off a two title fight card, flyweight best, Valentina Shevchenko was expected to attempt a defence of her 125-pound throne, against Scotland's, Joanne Calderwood. Shevchenko was then forced to remove herself from the tie after suffering an injury.
In an official statement released by the promotion on Monday evening, they outlined the need to call a halt to the event, due to the current bans on mass gatherings and travel restrictions in place due to the coronavirus.
"Due to the current state and national restrictions on public gatherings and travel, UFC 251 originally scheduled for Perth, Western Australia on Sunday, June 7th. UFC looks forward to returning to Perth in the near future with a PPV event in partnership with tourism Western Australia."
The promotion's next flagship pay-per-view event is a second attempted follow through with UFC 249 on May 9th. UFC 251 follows it's Brazilian counterpart, UFC 250 as the latest postponed event. From May 9th. to May 16th. the organisation are slated to host three events at the VyStar Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.
Promotional president, Dana White, also revealed his plans to host future events on a private, 'Fight Island' from June. The head-honcho explained how infrastructure is currently in place for the UFC to continue with a fight schedule on a weekly basis.
