Khabib tells how father Abdulmanap is in a "very serious condition" following COVID-19 complications

UFC lightweight champion, Khabib 'The Eagle' Nurmagomedov has spoken about his father and trainer, Abulmanap's current condition, after the 57-year-old underwent heart surgery following complications after he contracted the novel coronavirus pandemic. The 30-year-old who is currently in Russia explained how Abdulmanap is currently in a "very serious condition".
Khabib spoke in an Instagram video, detailing how his father is still in a Russian hospital, in a serious condition. Abdulmanap fell into a coma following heart surgery - stemming from complications after he contracted COVID-19 in April. The sambo trainer woke from the comatose state but is reportedly unable to speak or move.
"A lot has been written about my father on the internet," Khabib said. "He's in the hospital now, he's in a very serious condition. He had heart complications stemming from the (corona) virus. This virus has very seriously affected his heart since he had a heart operation a year ago. He's had surgery again. He's in a difficult situation, very difficult. We ask Allah to return him to us. Thank you very much to everyone who writes, who sends their support. May Allah help us all." (via RT)
The 31-year-old then revealed how twenty close relatives of his had contracted COVID-19, explaining how "we can only overcome this together".
"Personally, I've had more than twenty relatives - I don't mean people I know, I mean close relatives - who have been in intensive care. Many people I know have died, the parents of people close to me. This virus has affected everyone. This virus doesn't ask what your surname or name is, this virus doesn't ask where you work if you are rich or poor."
Many from the mixed martial arts community displayed their support for Nurmagomedov and his family, including UFC president, Dana White - as well as bitter-rival, Conor McGregor. Khabib, who is currently observing the Muslim practice of Ramadan until May 23rd. recently explained how he would be able to return to the Octagon in July. Following the UFC's trio of events in Jacksonville, Florida last week, the aforementioned, White, explained how a matchup between Khabib and newly minted interim lightweight champion, Justin Gaethje, has tentatively been planned for a September event.
