Tony Ferguson and Conor McGregor trade barbs on Twitter
The heated war of words between former interim UFC lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson, and Conor McGregor has continued this week - following a targeted shot of barbs at the lightweight's upper echelon from McGregor on Monday.
Ferguson suffered his first defeat in thirteen outings last Saturday at UFC 249 - with Justin Gaethje scoring a fifth-round stoppage to take the interim 155-pound title. In a series of tweets on Monday night, McGregor had choice words for Gaethje, arch-rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov, former-foe, Dustin Poirier, and made a dig to Ferguson after suggesting earlier, he loved him.
The 31-year-old Crumlin native explained how Ferguson, who absorbed an incredible one-hundred significant strikes to the head against Gaethje was "tough" but suggested fans had built him beyond a level he was actually capable of competing at. Ferguson, who suffered a fractured orbital during the intense headliner, was admitted to a Jacksonville hospital after the bout, where he received treatment for a cut to his left eye, and right cheek.
McGregor and Ferguson, who were once stablemates under Audie Attar at Paradigm Sports Management - traded shots at each other, with 'El Cucuy' explaining how McGregor was still his "bitch" and told 'The Notorious' one to "focus on putting the bottle down".
"@TheNotoriousMMA You're Still My Bitch. You Never Represented Me According To Audie (Attar),.. If So Then You Worked For Me, & Witheld Money From Me. Focus On Putting The Bottle Down Kid. @BallengeeGroup Is The Gold Standard, Must Be Hard Watching From The Sidelines. Keep It Up Chump - Champ"
This tweet from Ferguson produced a response from McGregor who told Ferguson to learn how to box, and how he should thank the nurses and doctors who stitched him at the Jacksonville hospital.
"Shut up and thank the nurses and doctors that plated back up your skull and stitched all those gashes up. It's international nurses day! And learn how to box! Fumbling over your feet like a f**king Buffoon. We'd be embarrassed to represent that at Paradigm Sports (Management). GPizzle 💶"
For McGregor, the Dubliner recently tweeted, "See you in July" as he prepares to make his second Octagon appearance of the year, following a successful return from a fifteen-month hiatus at UFC 246 in January - finishing 'Cowboy' Cerrone in forty-seconds. 'The Notorious' one campaigned for a matchup with the aforementioned Gaethje, however, a unification bout between Khabib and Gaethje is expected to take place at a UFC Fight Island event this summer instead.Shut up and thank the nurses and doctors that plated back up your skull and stitched all those gashes up.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) May 13, 2020
