57-year-old sambo trainer, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov has reportedly woken from a coma after undergoing heart surgery following his transportation to a military hospital in Moscow last week. Abdulmanap, the father of current UFC lightweight champion, Khabib 'The Eagle' Nurmagomedov is described as being in a "serious but stable" condition.

The Dagestan native was admitted to hospital in his home country in April after he was suspected to have contracted pneumonia - where his condition worsened having experienced heart problems. Yesterday it was reported Nurmagomedov was in a critical condition, having entered a comatose state. Updates follow an initial report by Russian media outlet, RT.

Ramazan Rabadanov, a close family friend of Nurmagomedov, provided updates on Abdulmanap's condition, revealing how he has woken but was yet to speak. Family members are still unable to visit Abdulmanap in hospital, with doctors monitoring his condition.

"He regained consciousness today. He hasn't spoken yet. Yesterday (Wednesday) he was in a coma after a heart operation," Rabadanov told, 360 TV.

Last night, before and during the broadcast of UFC Fight Night Jacksonville, promotional president, Dana White and the UFC issued a statement on where he praised Abdulmanap's martial arts background, praising his "pride, honour and respect".

"Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov is a true martial artist who lives a life of pride, honour and respect. He instilled those same values in his son, world champion Khabib (Nurmagomedov), at an early age and was always in his corner throughout his career. I know how close Khabib is with his father and I'm saddened to hear about his current state. My thoughts are with Abdulmanap and the Nurmagomedov family as he continues to fight."
