Former UFC two-weight world champion, 'The Notorious' Conor McGregor - believes it will be him who clashes next with recently minted interim champion, Justin 'The Highlight' Gaethje, and not arch-rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Both McGregor and Gaethje were on a collision course this summer - until the aforementioned Nurmagomedov was forced from a UFC 249 title defence against Tony Ferguson. Up steps Gaethje, and over the course of five rounds, issued a devastating beating to 'El Cucuy' of which the likes have never seen before - to claim the interim crown.

In a series of tweets posted from his official Twitter account tonight, McGregor explained how he believes he will be next to meet with Gaethje, rather than the Arizonian's plans to meet with Nurmagomedov in a unification bout this summer.

"The fans make the sport! Watching the other night I was against going in without them. But it will be my f**king pleasure to display the power I possess with zero background noise for them. Its (sic) me and Justin (Gaethje) next as Khabib (Nurmagomedov) is the biggest bottle fighter in the game. Guarantee."

In another tweet, the Dubliner told how he "loved" Tony Ferguson - before giving his opinion on 'El Cucuy's' skill level and praising his toughness.

"I love Tony (Ferguson). We represented him amazingly at Paradigm Sports and were betrayed for a promise of a baseball contract. But frame and preparation here was just embarrassing. His methods and conversation are humourous/enjoyable but he was never the level perceived. Although tough."

The Crumlin native then played promotional matchmaker - electing to pair Ferguson with fellow former interim titleholder, and opponent, Dustin Poirier. He then poked fun at 'The Diamond's' career, explaining how he goes on a winning streak before he eventually gets, "folded".

"It is Dustin (Poirier)/Tony next when Tony heals. If he does. Dustin will beat him also if changes are not made. Which they won't. Dustin, although game, and in the mix, will be fed to the floor again. Couple wins here/there and then folded in half. Rinse and repeat - Dustin career."

McGregor then pointed his next barb at the previously noted Gaethje, telling how he would put his teeth on a necklace, after questioning the danger of facing "a man that hugs legs".

"Justin, there is no danger in a man that hugs legs, we all know. Try and dance around what the real threat is here all you want. I am going to f**king butcher you. Your teeth. I'm going to put them on a f**king necklace. Speak on my skills as a father? You are f**king dead."

McGregor then turned his attention to longtime Dominance MMA leader, Ali Abdelaziz, questioning how Gaethje could align himself with a "convicted member of a Jihadi terror cell".

"Don't ever say you represent the great nation of the United States of America ever again. No true American would speak so highly of, or allow, a convicted member of a Jihadi terror cell represent them. Never Forget! You are a f**king blind fool, and I am going to finish the job."

The 31-year-old referred to UFC 229 opponent and bitter enemy, Khabib as a "rat" once more, before calling his "no comment" response to Ferguson's defeat, as an "embarrassment to real fighting".

"Khabib you absolute embarrassment. Scurrying, hiding rat as usual. As I have said many times. As has been seen many times. Through the pane of glass it was confirmed what was always known. "No comment" lol. An embarrassment to real fighting."

Finally, McGregor pointed at a move to the welterweight division, after his "division demolition job" at lightweight.

"After this division demolition job. It is 170lbs."
