Alexander Gustafsson V Jan Blachowicz: what just happened.

Former UFC Light Hevayweight title contender Alexander 'The Mauler' Gustafsson takes on unranked Jan Blachowicz in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night Hamburg. A win for Gustafsson would put an end to his 2 fight losing streak after consecutive defeats to Anthony 'Rumble' Johnson and Current UFC Light Heavyweight champion Daniel 'DC' Cormier. Pole Blachowicz looks to make a name for himself in the UFC with what would be one of the biggest upsets in UFC Light Heavyweight history. The Arboga native made his way to the octagon looking as confident as ever. Gustafsson, a definite knockout artist, holding 10 victories win KO or TKO will hold a 3 inch reach over the Polish Blachowicz. Blachowicz's most notable victories came against Ilir Latifi and former UFC fight Houston Alexander.

The first round seen Blachowicz landing a decent jab early on during the exchanges. Blachowicz defended a takedown from Gustafsson as the latter looked to settle down. Gustafsson had a small cut just under his right eye after a decent jab landed during the early exchanges. Blacowicz landed a good combination and applied the pressure before the Swede landed a good takedown to wind up in full guard. Gustafsson looked to land short slashing elbows from the guard. Blacowicz tried with a late arm bar but Gustafsson escaped with ease. 'The Mauler' looked extremely cautious throughout the first three and a half minutes with the underdog looking surprisingly loose.

The second of three rounds began with Blachowicz landing a good overhand right. Gustafsson replied with a perfectly executed double leg as he looked to start the first the way he finished the second. Blachowicz had a cut of his own on his hairline due to those vicious elbow strikes. Blachowicz looked for a guillotine but Gustafsson made his way out. The third and final round took off with Blachowicz landing a good step in right hand. Gustafsson landed one of his own as he looked to finally settle down. Blachowicz then found himself on his back again with Gustafsson landing another successful takedown attempt. Gustafsson looked to step over before Marc Goddard stood them up. Moments later Gustafsson executed an expert single leg takedown as he reigned down with elbows. The Swede looked set to end his two fight losing streak, with a dominant display in wrestling and ground and pound. 'The Mauler' won by a commanding unanimous decision to go 17-4 in his professional career.
