Renan Barão v Phillpe Nover: What just happened.

Former UFC Bantamweight champion Renan Barão faced Phillipe Nover in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 95: Barão looked to end his 2 fight losing streak kickstart his Featherweight career. Nover made his way to the octagon, knowing the biggest challenge of his career awaited him in the former of Renan Barão. Barão made his walk knowing, this could prove to be the biggest fight in his career as he looked to avoid 3 straight defeats in his professional mixed martial arts career.

Big John McCarthy got us set for the first of 3 scheduled rounds with Nover landing a decent jab in the opening seconds. Nover had a high kick blocked as both men looked tentative in the opening minutes. A good inside kick to the leg set up a good combination for Barão. Barão was momentarily on the mat after a counter shot by Nover. Another strong leg kick landed for Barão with 1:30 left in the first round. The buzzer signalled the end to an extremely close first five minutes.

The second round began with a leg kick for Barão, and some more feeling out between the pair. A good 1-2 combination landed for Barão as he smelled blood. Nover landed some decent counter jabs and then a good inside leg kick. Nover landed some good uppercuts from the inside with 1 minute left in the second. Barão landed a great takedown before the buzzer to all but guarantee him the second round.

The third and final round seen Barão more comfortable than the opening round as he landed some good jabs. Barão landed another takedown, this time with a perfectly executed inside trip. Both men made their way to the fence with Nover landing a decent knee to the body. Nover landed a good elbow on the inside with little time remaining in the third and final round. Barão landed a good takedown via a trip before the buzzer sounded as they went the distance. The judges handed a unanimous decision to Renan Barão as he ended his losing streak and won his first Featherweight bout since his move up to 145lbs.
