'Cowboy' Cerrone seals big fight with Robbie Lawler:
#7 ranked Lightweight and Welterweight fighter Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone will meet former UFC Welterweight champion 'Ruthless' Robbie Lawler at UFC 205 in New York City. Cerrone, moved up to 170lbs, finding wins against Alex Oliveira, Patrick Côte and most recently, scored a jaw dropping combination to KO Rick Story at UFC 202. Lawler, headlined UFC 201 in Atlanta against Tyron 'The Chosen One' Woodley, where he subsequently lost his UFC Welterweight title after a monstrous right hand from Woodley ended his title reign. With a title fight between Woodley and Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson slated for the same card, the Welterweight division could be about to receive a number of legitimate title challengers. Recently Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master Demian Maia made easy work of Carlos 'The Natural Born Killer' Condit submitting him in the first round of their bout via a rear naked choke. A win for either 'Cowboy' or Lawler would almost guarantee them a title shot but with Demian Maia waiting in the wings, we could see a title eliminator. Kelvin Gastelum also has something to say about the situation after his impressive unanimous decision victory over former UFC Welterweight champion Johnny 'Big Rig' Hendricks at UFC 200. Other rumoured fights that may take place at the inaugural UFC event in New York City, include Middleweights bout between Rashad Evans and Tim Kennedy, while former champ Chris Weidman may face Cuban knockout artist Yoel Romero. Al Iaquinta is also rumoured to make his long awaited return from injury in a bout against Thiago Alves at 155lbs.
