Leicester City v FC Porto:
Reigning Premier League champions Leicetser City hosted their first ever UEFA Champions Legue tie as they welcomed Portuguese side FC Porto to the King Power Stadium. Claudio Ranieri had faltered in their domestic league, losing 4-1 away to Manchetser United while Porto recorded a 3-1 home victory over Boavista last time out. Ranieri recalled Kasper Schmeichel and Luis Hernandez to the starting XI as they replaced Ron-Robert Zieler and Danny Simpson respectively. Leicester were victorious in their first tie beating Club Brugge in Belgium while FC Porto could only draw with Copenhagen in their first fixture in the group stage.
Porto were the more lively of the pair in the opening minutes with Olivier Torres playing in Silva before the latter sent his effort just wide of the post from a mere 30 yards out. It was then Leicester's chance to create something with Iker Casillas looking sloppy from a Christian Fuchs throw in. Seconds later, Porto created a decent chance with Miguel Layun unable to find Adrian Lopez in the area with the former Atletico Madrid unlucky not to connect. Leicester, with their first real chance of the game, took the lead through summer signing Islam Slimani as he was picked out by compatriot Riyad Mahrez as he headed home to give the home side the advantage before the half hour mark. Miguel Layun went close with a free kick just after the half hour with Schmeichel grateful to see it into the side netting. Half time.
Iker Casillas was fortunate that Danilo was on hand to save his blushes as he prevented Jamie Vardy from collecting the keeper's pass. It wasn't until the hour mark that Leicester created another real opportunity with Mahrez testing Casillas who got down low to prevent a second. With fiftheen minutes to play, Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera tried his luck with a testing half volley from around 25 yards out with Kasper Schmeichel beating it away. Porto were piling on the pressure late on with Andre Silva making a hash of a decent chance, before winger Jesus Corona seen his brilliantly volley crack the post via a deflection. That was the last real chance for Porto as the whistle sounded to give Leicester a maximum of 6 points from 2 games while Porto were struggling with only 1 point from a possible 6.
