Watford V Manchester United:

Walter Mazzari's Watford welcomed José Mourinho's stuttering Manchester United to Vicarage Road as the Red Devil's look to recover from two consecutive defeats to cross town neighbours Manchester City and on Thursday, losing to Dutch side Feyenoord in their first group stage match in the Europa League. 'The Hornets' came into this huge game full of confidence beating West Ham 4-2 last time out. Mourinho brought back Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the starting XI after their failure in Europe on Thursday night.

United began the stronger of the pair with skipper Wayne Rooney finding Chris Smalling from a free kick but he could only header past Gomes' post and wide. With 10 minutes on the clock, Watford's Troy Deeney went ever so close to giving his side the lead after spurred a chance to open the scoring after been found by Sebastian Prodl. Watford would have been kicking themselves moments later as Odion Ighalo spurred a even better opportunity. A mix up between Chris Smalling and David De Gea left the Spanish goalkeeper on the deck when the Nigerian striker received the ball about 20 yards out with the open goal at his mercy but his attempt somehow went the wrong side of the post and wide. Watford were really dominating as United looked at seas as Troy Deeney produced a wonderful finger tip save from Manchester United shot stopper De Gea, could be 3-0 early on. It took 20 minutes for United to make something happen at the other end as Zlatan Ibrahimovic could only hit the side netting from close range after Marcus Rashford's cross fell to the big Swede. Former Newcastle full back Daryl Janmaat clashed heads with Anthony Martial and both men stayed down for a prolonged period. A half an hour gone and United were kept out thanks to the Watford crossbar. Record signing Paul Pogb picked up the ball around 30 yards from goal when he was urged to shoot, he obliged and seen his long range effort cannon back off the crossbar with Watford thankful for the slight deflection. United were piling on the pressure as Chris Smalling headed over from Wayne Rooney's delivery. Controversy hit after the half hour mark as Miguel Angel Britos barged into Anthony Martial after just getting a toe to the ball and Daryl Janmaat found Etienne Capoue in the area and the former Spurs man kept his composure to beat De Gea with a first time shot to grab his 4th goal in a so far impressive showing. Anthony Martial was withdrawn from the action as winger Ashley Young replaced him. United looked for an immediate response as Luke Shaw linked up well with Young and seen his shot from a tight angle deflected out for a corner kick. Zlatan Ibrahimovic looked to find an equaliser as Valon Behrami mis controlled and allowed Ibrahimovic to break but Austrian defender Sebastian Prodl made an excellent recovery tackle seen the move broke down. Watford nearly seen their lead scrapped as another mistake, this time from Craig Cathcart let Ibrahimovic in again but Gomes got out quickly at his feet as Ashley Young makes a mistake with the follow up. Just before the interval, Watford had a free kick in a dangerous position but De Gea was equall to José Holobas' attempt.

The second half began with Zlatan Ibrahimovic again misfiring from the edge of the area after a good first touch. Daryl Janmaat was still feeling the full effects of his collision with Martial and was replaced by former Malaga and Galatasary winger Nordin Amrabat. United were going all out for the equaliser as Antonio Valencia was replaced by Spaniard Juan Mata as Ashely Young moved to full back. United finally had their equaliser after the hour mark after a decent spell as Marcus Rashford combined with Ibrahimovic and the Swede'ls delivery was blocked by Behrami as the ball luckily fell to Rashford who swept home from close range to make it 1-1. Watford suddenly came back from back foot as Holebas' cross is flicked on by former Juventus man Roberto Pereyra with De Gea uncertain but was saved by an Ashley Young clearance. United were really knocking on the door looking for the decisive goal as Zlatan Ibrahimovic's header was brilliantly saved by Gomes to keep the score level. Goal scorer Etienne Capoue was replaced by former Napoli man Camilo Zuniga as Watford looked for their own winner. The 2 Watford substitutes combined brilliantly as Amrabat's cross fell to an oncoming Zuniga as he smashed home expertly from just inside the area to make it 2-1. Mourinho threw his last substitute on as he looked to avoid a third successive defeat, as he brought on Dutch forward Memphis replaces Luke Shaw. Watford make their own change as former Granada forward Issac Success was brought on for Odion Ighalo. Success had an immediate impact teeing up Zuniga who made his way into the area no was tripped by the clumsy Marouane Fellaini as the Belgian gave away a penalty. Troy Deeney stepped up to seal all three points as he smashed home to make it 3-1 and inflict a third straight defeat for the big spending United.
