Matt 'The Steamrolla' Frevola has been forced out of his lightweight clash with Frank 'The Crank' Camacho at UFC Fight Night Vegas this weekend after a member of his corner returned a positive test for COVID-19.
New York native, Frevola released a statement on his official Instagram, detailing how one of his cornermen, fellow lightweight, Billy Quarantillo had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, with the UFC ultimately making the decision to pull him from the contest with Guam native, Camacho.
"The UFC has pulled me from my fight due to one of my cornerman testing positive for COVID-10. We did everything possible to make this fight happen. They tested me twice and both results came back negative. I also provided antibodies test from April 30th. but the UFC did not want any liability or to risk it. Being that there is a lack of knowledge on the incubation period and still so many unknowns regarding covid 19, they decided to pull me bc (because) of the positive test result from my teammate and brother, Billy Q (Quarantillo). He's been a huge help and source of support throughout camp and I have no hard feelings. He is 100% healthy at the moment and feels fine, so he must be a symptomatic (sic)."
"This is a Crazy situation and everything happens for a reason. I am on weight and prepared to the fullest. I was really excited for this fight with Frank (Camacho) and told him if they find him a new opponent for Saturday I will be rooting for him. If not, I'm willing to rebook this fight ASAP or when ever (sic) he wants. I'm sorry to everyone who was excited to watch me fight and supports me along this journey, I really felt the love ❤️ ✊. Can't believe I'm the first fighter to get two fights cancelled due to this virus (without even having it) but I know it has effected a lot more lives in worse ways 🙏. Figuring out the next move from here and will keep moving forward, that's what we do! Should be booked to fight again ASAP and hope the UFC continues to take care of me."
Frevola made his Octagon bow back in January of 2018, following a submission win over Jose Flores on Dana White's Tuesday Night Contenders Series the previous August. After a knockout loss to Marco Polo Reyes, Frevola battled to a majority draw with Lando Vannata, before decision wins over Jalin Turner and Luis 'Violent Bob Ross' Peña.
Frevola's teammate, and cornerman, Quarantillo recently featured in the Octagon, taking an exciting unanimous decision win over Spike 'The Alpha Ginger' Carlyle on May 30th. at UFC Fight Night Vegas.
Camacho, on the other hand, will make his seventh Octagon appearance, as he attempts to rebound from a first-frame rear-naked choke loss to talented grappler, Beneil Dariush at UFC Fight Night Kallang last October. The 31-year-old is now expected to meet with promotional newcomer, Justin Jaynes this weekend at the UFC APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to an initial report by MMA Junkie reporter, Farah Hannoun.
