A bantamweight pairing of former flyweight title challenger, Ray 'The Tazmexican Devil' Borg, and Georgian contender, Merab Dvalishvili, has fallen to the wayside ahead of UFC Fight Night Vegas this weekend at the UFC APEX.
Borg, 26, has been forced to withdraw from his meeting with Dvalishvili, due to personal reasons, with current Combate Americas bantamweight best, Gustavo Lopez meeting the Georgian on short notice, in a 140-pound catchweight pairing. News of the reworked matching was initially reported by MMA Junkie reporters, Nolan King and John Morgan.
Currently riding a three-fight winning run, Ray Longo and Matt Serra trainee, Dvalishvili will look to add short-notice replacement, Lopez to a winning run which includes Casey Kenney, Terion Ware, and Brad Katona. The 29-year-old has scored a 3-2 record with the promotion, debuting with contentious defeats to Frankie Saenz, and Ricky Simon.
30-year-old Xtreme Couture trainee, Lopez will make the short trip to the UFC APEX facility on Saturday evening, for an on-call UFC debut. Lopez last featured in August of last year, taking a first-round knockout win over Joey Ruquet to successfully defend his Combate Americas 135-pound title. The victory marked Lopez' third consecutive win, and finish.
