A welterweight matchup between promotional newcomers, Anthony 'Aquaman' Ivy, and Christian 'The Beast' Aguilera is set to feature at UFC Fight Night Vegas next weekend from the promotion's APEX facility in 'Sin City'.
Ivy, was tentatively planned to draft into tonight's middleweight pairing between Ian Heinisch and Gerald Meerschaert, for a short-notice Octagon bow. It was feared that Heinisch's cornerman contracted the novel coronavirus - until a second test resulted in a false, allowing Heinisch to compete as planned. Ivy will now meet Aguilera instead. California based debutante, Aguilera, last competed under the Legacy Fighting Alliance banner. Sources close to MMA Power Hour confirmed the matchup, following an initial report from Sherdog.com.
Riding a five-fight win streak into his first outing with the UFC, San Antonio native, Ivy is a former WXC welterweight titleholder, dislodging Willis Black via strikes in the penultimate round of his most recent walk. The 30-year-old currently plys his trade at Brazilian Top Team Texas and is revered for his ability to finish, failing to hear the final claxon in any of his ten professional appearances.
Fresh from a unanimous decision win over Gláucio Eliziáro at LFA 81 at the end of January - 28-year-old debuting party, Aguilera has notched wins in his last two. The storied competitor has featured in notable promotions such as the above noted, LFA, King of the Cage, RFA, and BAMMA since his first professional walk back in October of 2013. With ten of his thirteen wins coming via stoppage due to strikes, Aguilera presents a dangerous customer on the feet.
