An important light heavyweight tie between one-time title challenger, Anthony 'Lionheart' Smith, and division prospect, Aleksandar Rakić is slated to feature at a UFC event on August 29th. - although, a location and venue have yet to be disclosed by the promotion.
Making a somewhat timely return from his one-sided loss to fellow former title challenger, Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night Jacksonville in May, Nebraska native, Smith will attempt to return to winning ways. Also looking to strike it right this time around, Austria upstart, Rakić - dropped a close split decision defeat to Volkan 'No Time' Oezdemir at UFC Fight Night Busan in December. News of the matchup was initially reported by MMA Play 365.
Following his defeat to Brazilian striker, Teixeira - Smith was admitted to a medical facility, where he received treatment for a broken nose and orbital, having lost teeth in the five-round headlining bout also. The defeat marked Smith's first since an unsuccessful attempt to pry the 205-pound crown from current gold holder, Jon Jones at UFC 235. In his most recent win, Smith headlined UFC Fight Night Stockholm, taking a career highlight, penultimate round submission over hometown hero, Alexander Gustafsson.
Rakić, 28, will feature in the Octagon for the sixth time, hoping to rebound from his first promotional defeat and the first blemish since his professional bow. Debuting against Francisco Barroso, Rakić took a unanimous decision win - before another judging win over Justin Ledet. Adding to his impressive knockout tally, Rakić managed to stop Devin Clark, prior to a statement stoppage over Jimi 'Posterboy' Manuwa, also at UFC Fight Night Stockholm last June.
