A heavyweight title rubber-match between reigning champion, Stipe Miocic, and former two-weight champion, Daniel 'DC' Cormier is in the works to feature on the UFC 252 card on August 15th.

Miocic, reclaimed the heavyweight throne last August at UFC 241 - via a penultimate round stoppage after some devastating body-work. Regardless of outcome in this trilogy matching, former light heavyweight and heavyweight best, Cormier is expected to officially call time on his illustrious career.

In his first outing since that August redemption, Miocic will look to score the first successful defence of his heavyweight throne, of his second reign, and his fourth overall. The Cleveland native secured the championship versus Fabrício Werdum back at UFC 198 in Brazil, before setting the record for most consecutive successful championship defences, with finishes of Alistair Overeem, Junior dos Santos, and a decision shutout of Francis Ngannou.

At UFC 226 in July of 2018 - Miocic suffered his first blemish since a decision loss to the aforementioned dos Santos in 2014, as Cormier claimed the title via an opening-round knockout - earning 'champ-champ' status as a result. News of the pairing was first reported by ESPN reporter, Brett Okamoto.

Miocic, 37, has spent time since his last appearance in August, dealing with eye-injuries, which stemmed from his first meeting with Cormier, as well as admirably acting as a first-responder during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Lafayette native, Cormier will be afforded his heavyweight title rematch, following his decision to grant Miocic an immediate title re-run after their initial tussle. The 41-year-old successfully defended the throne before his August defeat to Miocic - taking a UFC 230 headliner opposite the always charismatic, Derrick Lewis. In a largely routine performance, Cormier wrapped up a second-round rear-naked choke.

Before dethroning Miocic at UFC 226, six months prior, Cormier had lodged the final defence of his light heavyweight throne, with a similarly one-sided knockout of Swiss contender, Volkan Oezdemir - whom he happens to share the August 11th. card with.

In a gold-laden career, Cormier has knocked back 'Rumble' Johnson (x2), Alexander Gustafsson, Anderson Silva, Dan Henderson, Frank Mir, Roy Nelson, Josh Barnett, and 'Bigfoot' Silva to name a few.
